Over a period of several million years, many different minerals seeped through the earth’s crust, forming layers and growing crystals under immense pressure and heat. Each mineral imparted a different colour and quality to the resulting stone.

I am a goldsmith, with over 30 years’ experience, working from my home in South Africa.
I’ve always been drawn to small things that can be held in the palm of one’s hand. Pebbles worn smooth by water, shells, old beads, driftwood, an unusually shaped stone. Although I no longer bring many of them home, I still notice them, and that habit of looking closely finds its way into everything I make.
I served an apprenticeship in Johannesburg and was trained in the old classical methods, passed on by goldsmiths over the centuries. I love creating tactile easy-to-wear jewellery that is inspired by meaningful myths and symbols. My designs often contain elements that appear in old and new cultures across the world. I describe my work as “Camelot meets Star Trek”. My jewellery is artisanal, technical to a high degree, often bold, never compromising in quality, and everlasting. I source mostly unique gemstones from lapidarists and local suppliers.
Silver has always been my principal material. To me it has the quiet quality of moonlight. Gold plays a different role. I use it sparingly because its presence is stronger, brighter and more assertive. I enjoy the balance between the two.
I make one-of-a-kind pieces that begin mostly with a design I’ve spotted in textiles, architecture or sometimes a gemstone suggests a direction; I make first, and then wait for the person who feels a connection with the finished piece. Alongside this, I also enjoy commissions, where a conversation becomes the starting point for something made especially for one person.
